NS..then..now.. and more to come..!!

I was lucky and fortunate to be able to participate in our country's National Service program wayyy back when it first started. Funnily enough, i was actually not chosen for the program. Everyone around me was either mopping around unhappy at being chosen or ecstatic to go or was just passively going with the flow.. For those who was not chosen, we happy that they escape the unfortunate program of misery.. hahaha ... And for some who did got in were finding ways to avoid going such as faking a health certificate, asking parents to send them overseas.. and even purposely write to the kementerian and begged to be taken out of the program.

But for me... I purposely wrote in to the government and asked them to allow me to participate in the program.. As weeks gone by and my friends who were in the first batch up and left for camp, i came to realize that mayb i didnt get in after all. So, i applied for work and got a part-time work in TGIF, on my 2nd day of work i got a letter from the government asking me to get packing and ready to report for the program in 7 days.. so literally i work at TGIF for exactly 10 days then i left for my National Service training.

I would never have thought or guessed that i was such a "CITY" girl.. i always thought of myself as the a bit rowdy  sporty girl and was a bit of a challenger.. but going there, i realize i was a CITY girl and its all funny and amusing stories that happen there...Those are to be told and shared with friends and families.. haha ... or mayb it'll be good for one of my entries one day.. hahaha...

But what i am happy is.. Even those we all met for the first time in 2004 in Setiu, Terengganu. i am happy to announce that i am still in contact with some of them. Some by email, Facebook and some are as close to me as bestie's. Everyone is busy and a few have settled down with families of their own. But the main thing is we all do keep in touch ... And with some of them, i had made beautiful memories.. and these are some of them...=)

And it was funny how we were running around looking for the shuttle that would take us to the skytrex site.. hahaa ..We were pumped to try this activity cause we thought since we survived NS we could do it with no problem.. Well.. it was tough, enjoyable and left my body aching for the entire weekend.. hahaha .. I had my battle wounds to showoff.. haha

One of the most recent outing was us trying our hands at archery-ing... Lolz , it was funny, fun and awesome experience... hahaha .., lolz... more activities to try together... hahaha

A year plus ago, some of us even went for a weekend away to Penang... it was crazy and all.. but i had fun... With the sightseeing, foods... and the sceneries... it was a great experience...

All in all... I appreciate all the wonderful activities that we have done.. and more to come soon. i hope we will never loose contact.. For those who have distant themselves... Or i have distant myself from them.. Well, its better to lead life they with less drama...=).

Happy Mothers day 2011 !!

Every year in the month of May , the whole world would gather and celebrate their birth by celebrating Mother's all over the Universe...=). I know we should celebrate and be grateful for our mothers everyday. However, having a special day to celebrate Mother's day besides their birthday is also awesome. So we can shower them extra love twice a year..=)

Every year my brother and I, will find ways to find gifts to surprise my mom . She is everything to us . But one things is that customary is the Mothers Day dinner...=).. For the past 2 years, she has been repeatedly hinting that she wanna try Victoria Station steak ... And this year.. *tadaaa!!!!* Alhamdulillah, my dad treat all of us to....VICTORIA STATION!!!=)..

We have always heard of the restaurant, however we all have never really been there nor eaten there before. So its was an amazing treat for all of us to have a chance to dine at the place. The first thing that i kinda like of the place was the fact that it was inspired by UK subway station by the same name 'Victoria Station'. So the insides was divided into three sections, at both corners was a train carriage inspired with dining layout.

Because i had made reservations earlier, we were able to cut the cue and proceed to the available table inside one of this compartments. This was when i notice that the place was kinda cramp but comfortable enough to enjoy the meal. I notice that the pricelist of the food was ok-ok, some were affordable but mostly it was on the pricey side. And when we placed our orders, it took them about 10 mins to arrive.I know.. i know.. if it arrives late we complain... too early we still complain. lolz..

However, for it to come about 10 mins after we just ordered, it kinda showed that it was precooked and was just heated up before putting it out to be sent to us. And with the price compared to the portion, it was kinda disappointing. However, luckily it was my fathers treat, and with that i dont think i will ever go back there again. =)... With that pricelist i think i could find other places that has better steak which is more satisfying and yummilicious..!!

After dinner, my bother decided to treat all of us to Baskin Robbin ice-cream at Taipan.  Wow, The flavour of the month is sooo yummy..!!! I forgot the name of the flavour , however its sooooo yummilicous, it has coconut and caramel coated nuts...!! Me and my mum both enjoyed it very much . Guess the girls has the sweet caramel tooth and the boys all enjoyed double chocolate and coffee something..!! lolz.. That just made the day end sooo awesome...=)

We siblings even slipped i some cam-whoring session. Heheheh...
Thats how the family celebration ended for the night..
I absolutely ♥ ♥ ♥ all of them sooo much.!!

Lending a helping hand

Making a difference in the world not matter how insignificant it may seem to you, could make a family out there happy . Well, this year a few of my friends decided to Make a difference in the only way they could. They and a few of their families organise this charity collection of clothes, toys, groceries and any things that is still reusable and donate them to families around Kuala Selangor and Kapar (Klang).

How they plan it was very organized. They made a list of groceries for ppl to donate. They can either donate loose item and whatever it is that they feel like it . But they made a list of groceries to give to each families.

The list goes like this ,
1) 5kg rice
2)Powdered Milk
3)Condensed Milk
4)Sardines
5)Sugar
6)Salt
7)Atta Flour
8)1 Liter Oil
9)Curry Powder
10) Pappadum
11) Milo
12)Maggi /Meehoon
13)Dhal

They made a list so that each family has equal amount of things . So it was easier that for everyone who wants to donate can donate according to family. For me, I couldn't really afford to sponsor a family so me and my friend Fara shared and sponsored a family. Im shocked that at home, my mom would spend hundreds for the whole month family groceries. And even then we still take things for granted and demand some new type of food stuff /brand and/or products that just came into the market .

However, for some family a donation of RM100 worth  Groceries of the basic food stuff was enough for them to survive and feed their entire family . It makes me appreciative of all the things my mom ever did to keep a roof under my head,to feed my entire family  and to care for all of us when we needed her the most. So me and Fara sponsored one family while our other friend Parames sponsored 4 families. How awesome is that ??

Total for that weekend itself they have collected and sponsored about 60 families. In quantity thats a lot... Thats like huge. They organised everything even giving the kids each a party packs thats filled with jellies, chocolates, sweets, snacks and even pre-loved toys ... However, because they were sooo many kids and not enough toys. They didnt have the hearts to distribute the toys and asked that the leader of place to make the distribution later on. At the venue , some of the volunteers was overwhelmed by the situation and was deeply moved and vow to return and visit again.

Sometimes helping others, makes you learn ,
realise and appreciative of all we ever had.
May God bless them all, who have ever made a difference in someone's life.
And may God bless you, if you have ever made a difference.
I know and i feel Blessed to have this life that i have.

Baking Day (7-5-2011)....

As any granddaughter would say and admit... My grandmother is the best cook around.. And in my case.. i would say she is ... And since i absolutely love love love kek lapis sarawak(Sarawak layered cake) , she decided to give a try to make it . Although she didnt really know the ingredient, recipe and all, but from someone she randomly met at the hospital..=), she roughly got the recipe!!

Since mothers day fall on a sunday , and i was kinda free on saturday. She decided to call on me and my cousin Natasha to help and try to make it. Like i said although she didnt really know what or how it was done, we decided to just go with the flow and use whatever intuitive we all had.. haha .. and so the baking began..!!

After shopping at carefour the day before to get some of the basic ingredients, we made the basic batter of beating the eggs with more egg yoke than the white till its a white fluffy cloud of egg stiff. Then we beat sugar, horlicks, *secret ingredient*, melted butter and  flour . Later on we mixed the two mixture together and separate it into 3 different containers. 1 container was mixed with green food colouring, 1 with red colouring and the other is the batter colour itself (we call it yellow) . Then we pre-heated the oven at 180c*.

With that we started to layer it out. First will be the yellow, then the green, yellow, red, yellow.. and then we make a stripe pattern diagonally alternating between the colour red and green, and etc. While we are baking the first SQUARE layered cake, since there was extra coloured batter left, i decided to use my creativity and make a ROUND fun cake with the extra red/green batter.

Everything well so well, however we forgot the most crucial part. AGGHHH!!!! hahaha .. Supposedly we had to open the Bottom&Top fire for the first 2 layers and then change it to only Top fire only. I admit I also forgot with all the excitement of the baking to change that, well, my grandma, my aunt and my cousin also forgot. Resulted to the black and burned ROUND layered cake. But cause the batter was yummilicious!! Even the burned part tasted awesome! And lucky for my the round cake made it through
with little burning at the bottom. So, sorry for the look of the cake . I forgot to beautify the cake before taking a photo.. haha .. Well, no matter how it looks like . Its sooo deliciously yummy..!! I will definitely try to make it again and make it better..!!!=)

While all this was going on, i coax my cousin Tasha to teach me how she did her awesomely and delicious Chocolate rolls. Its a Cinnamon Roll that has no cinnamon but a lots and lots of Chocolate chips...!!! It was sooo sinful...!!!! Heheheh, it took some time for the preparation as it takes a while to wait for the wet ingredients to cool down and later to wait for the yeast to rise... But the making of the rolls was relatively simple.. Hehehehe ... I think i might wanna try to make it with maybe cream cheese, jam or even peanut butter flavoured ones...That will definitely be for next time..!!
